Policy Pathways for Achieving Sustainable Urban Mobility in Emerging Cities

Project Summary

This project explores policy pathways to achieve sustainable urban mobility in Vietnam’s rapidly growing cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. It examines how to encourage electric vehicle adoption, promote public transport use, improve traffic safety, and prepare for future mobility technologies such as robot taxis services. By combining behavioural research and policy analysis, the project aims to generate evidence-based recommendations that reduce emissions, congestion, and accidents, contributing to Vietnam’s net-zero 2050 goal and improving the quality of urban life.

Objectives

Encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption and sustained use, identifying behavioural, social, and infrastructural drivers that influence intention and continued engagement.
Promote public transport (PT) use and reduce dependency on private vehicles through examining behavioural drivers and accessibilily analysis.
Enhance traffic safety and lower accident-related social and economic costs by identifying risk factors and proposing safety-oriented mobility policies.
Assess readiness for emerging technologies such as autonomous or robot taxis, evaluating governance, infrastructure, and societal acceptance.
