Connectedness to Nature in Vietnam: Translation, Validation, and Public Engagement

Project Summary

This project will translate and validate a psychological scale that measures how connected Vietnamese people feel to nature. By collecting data from adults in public spaces, the study will create a reliable tool for future research and environmental education. Findings will be shared not only through an international journal but also through simple articles and visual materials to help the public understand the importance of connecting with nature for well-being and sustainability.

Objectives

Translate the CNS from English into Vietnamese following best-practice guidelines (Swami & Barron, 2019) and conduct a preliminary assessment of face validity;
Conduct a first-pass assessment of factorial validity of CNS scores with data from a Vietnamese community sample;
Cross-validate the emergent factor structure of the CNS in a new Vietnamese community sample and examine measurement invariance as a function of respondent characteristics, and ;
Conduct an of the nomological validity of the newly translated instrument in a Vietnamese community sample.
