Smart Mariculture System

Project Summary

This project develops a low-cost smart mariculture prototype to help Vietnamese coastal farmers monitor water conditions and deliver feed more efficiently. The team will create a lightweight IoT sensing kit, an automated single-line feeder, and a simple dashboard that provides real-time environmental insights and feeding information. These tools make advanced monitoring more accessible for small and medium farms. By reducing feed waste and improving early detection of water-quality issues, the project supports healthier fish, more resilient livelihoods, and the foundation for future large-scale, data-driven mariculture systems in Vietnam.

Objectives

This project introduces a first-of-its-kind compact smart mariculture platform tailored for small- to medium-scale Vietnamese farms. The innovation lies in a modular, low-cost system that combines:

  • A marine-grade IoT sensing kit, integrating an underwater camera, hydrophone, and essential water-quality sensors in a robust, field-ready housing.
  • A compact mass-flow feeder prototype using a simplified blower and single-line delivery mechanism, enhanced by AI-assisted feed-rate calibration to reduce waste.
  • Edge-to-cloud AI algorithms for fish behavior analysis, feed-response estimation, and short-term water-quality prediction—features rarely accessible to local farmers today.
  • A Web-App Dashboard Lite, designed for low-bandwidth coastal environments, providing real-time environmental indicators, feed-cycle insights, and early-warning notifications..
