On July 11, 2025 the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies (HIDS), in collaboration with VinUniversity, organized a scientific workshop titled “Developing a toolkit to assess and promote Green Transformation for New Ho Chi Minh City.” The event took place in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting the participation of research institutes, universities, and experts in the field of sustainable development.

Opening the workshop was the keynote report presented by the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies. The following was a discussion by Professor Edmund Malesky of the Center for International Development at Duke University (USA), focusing on the drivers promoting cooperation in the environmental sector.
After that, the representative of the HIDS presented the current situation of the new Ho Chi Minh City on green transformation, the orientation for the 2025-2030 period, and the vision to 2050.
One of the notable points of the workshop was the presentation by Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thi Thuc Anh – Vice Provost and Director of the Innovation Center at VinUniversity. The VinUniversity expert team introduced an architectural framework for evaluating green transition, consisting of ten core pillars, alongside a green commercial maturity model.

A deep dive discussion session was co-moderated by Mr. Pham Binh An, Deputy Director of HIDS, and Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Thuc Anh. Participants exchanged views on the vision and goals for the city’s green transformation, the challenges in priority sectors, and the applicability of the proposed indicators and models. This event create a solid foundation for a comprehensive green transformation strategy, aiming for a sustainably developed and environmentally friendly Ho Chi Minh City.
