GREEN-X joins hands with the Ministry of Science and Technology to promote business innovation

June 26, 2025

On June 26, 2025, the Smart Green Transformation Center (GREEN-X), in collaboration with the Department of Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized a workshop titled “Solutions to Increase the Proportion of Enterprises Engaged in Innovation Activities” in Hanoi.

The workshop aimed to create an open dialogue platform connecting government agencies, associations, enterprises, research institutes, universities, and experts. It provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share information, exchange experiences, and contribute insights on innovation indicators, measurement criteria, and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of enterprise innovation activities.

In the context of increasingly fierce global competition, innovation plays a crucial role in enhancing business competitiveness, fostering socio-economic development, and promoting international integration. By 2030, Vietnam aims for over 40% of enterprises to implement innovation activities, thereby improving technological capabilities, production levels, and creating higher added value.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyễn Võ Hưng — Representative of the Innovation Support Center under the Department of Innovation — shared that in 2022, the proportion of enterprises implementing product and process innovation reached 29%. However, many businesses, especially small enterprises, have yet to participate due to limited resources and technology. He emphasized the need for comprehensive solutions, ranging from financial and technical support to policy development and market incentives, to narrow the gap and increase the rate of innovation among businesses.

Following that, Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thị Thục Anh — Director of the Innovation Center at VinUni — presented the findings of the 2024 Vietnam Industry Innovation Readiness (VIIR) Index project. The results highlighted Vietnam’s outstanding potential in environmental and social innovation, with the education, healthcare, and food sectors taking the lead. However, she also pointed out a significant gap between enterprises’ self-assessment and global standards. She stressed the importance of investing in human resources and technology, as well as strengthening linkages and innovation governance to enhance national competitiveness.

The presentations and discussions at the workshop focused on analyzing the current situation and identifying the challenges businesses face when implementing innovation activities. Practical solutions were proposed to improve support mechanisms and policies, thereby facilitating more effective policy implementation and strongly promoting the innovation ecosystem within enterprises and across other sectors.

The workshop was regarded as an important bridge, bringing together diverse perspectives from government agencies, the business community, research institutes, and universities, towards building a robust and innovative business community that actively contributes to the nation’s sustainable development goals.
